Ignore the busy section near the main road — walk 200 metres southeast along the sand and you'll find wider beach with more space between sunbed rows.
Argassi Beach — The Town’s Back Garden
If you’re staying in Argassi resort, the beach is quite literally on your doorstep. This narrow strip of sand, just 4 kilometres southeast of Zakynthos Town, serves as the daytime extension of one of the island’s most popular tourist villages. It’s not the most dramatic beach on Zakynthos — but when you can walk from your hotel room to the sea in five minutes, drama becomes less important.

What Awaits You
A long, relatively narrow beach of fine dark sand stretching about 1.5 kilometres along the coast. The water is clear and typically calm, protected by the curve of Laganas Bay. Like much of the south coast, the seabed shelves gently — good for swimming, though not as spectacularly shallow as the north-coast beaches.
The beach is fully organised and backed by the hotels and tavernas of Argassi resort. Sunbeds and umbrellas line the sand (expect €5-8 per set, often free if you buy drinks from the adjacent bar), water sports operate from several points, and you’re never more than a few steps from a cold drink or a gyro.
What Argassi lacks in isolation it makes up for in convenience. This is beach-as-extension-of-holiday, the kind of place where you can forget your sunscreen and be back from the pharmacy in 10 minutes.
Getting There
From Zakynthos Town, drive southeast on the main coastal road — Argassi is 4 km, about 7 minutes. The beach runs parallel to the main street through the resort; park anywhere along the front.
By bus: Services run frequently between Zakynthos Town and Argassi (€1.50-2, 10 minutes). The bus stops right by the beach.
On foot: If you’re staying in Zakynthos Town, it’s a pleasant 45-minute walk along the coastal road — longer than the bus but a nice morning constitutional.
Facilities
Argassi has the full resort package:
- Sunbeds & umbrellas: Multiple operators, reasonably priced
- Beach bars: Numerous, along the entire length
- Water sports: Jet skis, pedal boats, banana boat, parasailing
- Showers & toilets: At beach bars and hotels
- Tavernas: Many options directly behind the beach
- Shops: Everything from sunscreen to inflatables
Insider Tips
The southern end of the beach (towards Laganas) is wider and less crowded. Most visitors cluster near the main road access point — walk 200-300 metres southeast and you’ll find more space.
Water sports here are competitively priced compared to busier beaches. If you want to try parasailing or jet skis, Argassi is a good place to do it without premium pricing.
For a quieter swim, come before 10 AM or after 5 PM. The midday crowd thins significantly in the evening, and the sunset views along this stretch of coast are genuinely good.
Best Time to Visit
For convenience: Any time — that’s Argassi’s whole point.
For families: June and September offer the best balance of warm water and manageable crowds.
Peak season: July-August. Busy but never overwhelmed — the beach is long enough to cope.
Evening swims: Argassi is excellent for a pre-dinner dip. The water stays warm, the crowds thin out, and the proximity to resort tavernas means you’re minutes from a meal.
Tourist vs Local Perspective
Tourists staying in Argassi love the convenience — it’s the beach they can walk to. Locals from Zakynthos Town treat it as a practical option when they don’t want to drive far, but it’s not a destination beach for them.
The honest truth: Argassi is a resort beach for resort visitors. If you’re staying elsewhere, there are more beautiful spots on Zakynthos. But if you’re here, it does exactly what it needs to do — soft sand, clear water, cold drinks, minimal effort. Sometimes that’s the whole holiday.
