Mavratzis is effectively a continuation of Banana Beach but significantly quieter — walk 10 minutes east from Banana and you'll find more space with the same water quality.
Mavratzis Beach — Banana’s Quieter Neighbour
Mavratzis sits right next to the famous Banana Beach, sharing the same golden sand and turquoise water, but somehow escapes the worst of the crowds. For visitors to the Vasilikos peninsula, it offers a simple proposition: all of Banana’s quality with less of Banana’s intensity.

What Awaits You
A beach of fine golden sand about 300 metres long, effectively the eastern extension of Banana Beach. The water is clear, shallow, and typically calm — the classic Vasilikos combination that makes this peninsula so popular with families.
Like its famous neighbour, Mavratzis is organised: sunbeds and umbrellas line the sand, water sports are available, and beach bars serve drinks and snacks throughout the day. The difference is in the intensity — Mavratzis feels more relaxed, less resort-like, more like a beach and less like a production.
The water sports here tend to be slightly less aggressive than at Banana. You’ll find pedal boats and kayaks rather than full jet-ski operations. It’s a gentler introduction to Vasilikos.
Getting There
From Zakynthos Town, drive south towards Vasilikos (about 15 km, 22 minutes). Mavratzis is signed just before Banana Beach if approaching from the west, or just after if approaching from the east.
On foot from Banana Beach: A 10-minute walk east along the sand. Very easy.
Parking: Free parking area nearby, easier to find than Banana’s crowded car park.
Facilities
Mavratzis offers standard beach amenities:
- Sunbeds & umbrellas: Multiple rows, reasonably priced
- Beach bars: 1-2 options for drinks and snacks
- Water sports: Pedal boats, kayaks, some options
- Parking: Free car park
- Showers: Available at beach bars
Insider Tips
If you’re heading to Banana Beach and the car park looks impossible, continue to Mavratzis. Same area, easier parking, same water.
The eastern end of Mavratzis is quieter still — effectively a transition zone towards Porto Roma. Walk 5 minutes for even more space.
For families, Mavratzis offers a good balance: enough facilities to be comfortable, not so much development that it feels manufactured.
Best Time to Visit
For relaxed swimming: Morning hours, before 11 AM.
For families: June and September — warm water without peak crowds.
Peak season: July-August. Busier than off-season but always calmer than neighbouring Banana.
For water sports: Mid-morning to mid-afternoon when operations are fully active.
Tourist vs Local Perspective
Tourists often stumble on Mavratzis after giving up on Banana’s crowds — and then wonder why they didn’t come here first. Locals from Vasilikos treat both beaches as options depending on their mood; Mavratzis is the choice when they want the facilities without the scene.
The honest truth: Mavratzis is not dramatically different from Banana Beach. Same sand, same water, same peninsula. What it offers is the same experience with less competition for it. In August, that difference is significant.
