Insider Tip What makes this guide different

Planos is essentially Tsilivi's quieter continuation — if Tsilivi Beach feels too busy, walk 10 minutes east and you'll find more space with the same quality sand and water.

Planos Beach — Tsilivi’s Quieter Extension

Planos is what happens when a beach is too good to stay hidden but hasn’t quite become famous enough to be overwhelmed. Essentially the eastern continuation of Tsilivi Beach, it offers the same soft sand and shallow water with noticeably fewer crowds. For visitors to the Tsilivi area, it’s an open secret worth knowing.

What Awaits You

A long stretch of fine golden sand merging seamlessly with neighbouring Tsilivi — if you didn’t know where one ended and the other began, you wouldn’t notice. The water is the classic north-coast formula: shallow, warm, and clear, with a gentle slope that makes it ideal for families with children.

Planos benefits from being just far enough from Tsilivi’s main resort area to feel more relaxed. The beach bars and sunbed operations are present but not dominant. Water sports are available but not aggressive. You can find a quiet spot to read, but you can also rent a pedal boat if the mood strikes.

The beach is backed by the Planos residential area — a mix of hotels, apartments, and some permanent homes. This gives it a more lived-in feel than the purely resort-dominated stretches elsewhere.

Getting There

From Zakynthos Town, drive northwest towards Tsilivi (about 6.5 km, 12 minutes). Planos is signed as you approach Tsilivi from the east. Alternatively, continue past the main Tsilivi beach area and you’ll hit Planos naturally.

On foot from Tsilivi: A 10-15 minute walk along the sand heading east. Very easy.

By bus: Services to Tsilivi stop near Planos — ask for the Planos stop.

Facilities

Planos offers standard beach amenities:

  • Sunbeds & umbrellas: Available along most of the beach
  • Beach bars: 3-4 options for drinks and snacks
  • Water sports: Pedal boats, kayaks, some motorised options
  • Tavernas: Several in the Planos area behind the beach
  • Parking: Street parking, usually manageable

Insider Tips

If you’re staying in central Tsilivi and the main beach feels crowded, walk to Planos. Same sand, same water, significantly fewer people fighting for space.

The far eastern end of Planos is the quietest. Most visitors stop near the first beach bars they encounter; walk another 200 metres and you’ll find more relaxed spots.

Planos is ideal for a morning swim before the day heats up. The shallow water warms quickly, and by 10 AM you can have a lovely dip without the midday intensity.

Best Time to Visit

For peaceful swimming: Morning hours, any month from May to October.

Peak season: July-August. Busier than off-season but never as packed as central Tsilivi.

For families: June and September offer the best balance.

Evening: Planos is lovely at sunset — the beach faces northwest and the light is beautiful.

Tourist vs Local Perspective

Tourists staying in Planos hotels often don’t realise they’re technically on a separate beach from Tsilivi — which is fine, because it means they enjoy the quieter experience without seeking it out. Locals from Zakynthos Town who come to this coast often choose Planos over central Tsilivi specifically to avoid the crowds.

The honest truth: Planos isn’t a destination beach in its own right. It’s a very good beach that happens to be attached to a more famous one. But sometimes that’s exactly what you want — quality without the circus.
