Sea Breeze Restaurant — Argassi’s Reliable Seafood Stop
Argassi stretches along a narrow coastal road between Zakynthos Town and the southern hills, with restaurants on both sides and the beach a few metres from the east-facing terrace seats. Sea Breeze occupies a mid-point on this strip and has been doing the same thing — grilling and frying fish, keeping prices reasonable, staying consistent — for as long as most regulars can remember.
The Setting
An open-fronted terrace facing the sea, with white plastic chairs and tablecloths that flap slightly in the evening breeze. Nothing architect-designed or Instagram-staged. The view is of the water, the beach, and on clear evenings the coast of the Peloponnese to the east. It’s honest and functional and the fish doesn’t need a better frame than that.
The Food
The mixed seafood platter is the main event and the right way to eat here. For two people, it covers: fried calamari rings, grilled whole prawns, mussels in wine, a small whole fish (usually red mullet or sea bass depending on the day), and grilled octopus tentacles. Everything comes on a single large plate with lemon, bread, and a side salad. It’s the kind of shared meal that takes 90 minutes to get through properly and costs €45–55 for two.
Fried calamari as a standalone starter — fresh squid, not frozen rings, cut in rounds and lightly battered. When fried in clean oil at the right temperature, it’s crisp and not at all rubbery.
Taramasalata — made in-house with proper cured roe, bread, lemon, and olive oil. The colour is pale pink rather than the vivid magenta of the commercially made version, which tells you it’s the real thing.
Grilled sea bass — whole, charcoal-grilled, with olive oil and fresh herbs. The fish is sourced daily; the kitchen grills it well.
Practical
Service is quick at lunch, slightly slower in peak evening. The kitchen closes at 23:30 but they’ll seat you and take your order until then. Good for families — the menu has simple options for children, the table sizes are generous, and the location is easy walking distance from most Argassi accommodation.
